How the comparison is made
For every variant printing, RIFT SCAN finds the standard printing of the same card (same name, preferring the same set) and compares market prices. Only pairs where both have a price are used. The headline price of a printing is its normal market price, otherwise foil, otherwise the lowest listing. The table gives the median of each group so a few extreme cards do not dominate.
| Variant | Printings in catalog | Pairs compared | Median variant | Median standard card | Median multiple |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alternate art | 126 | 125 | $3.42 | $0.34 | 5.5× |
| Signature | 50 | 45 | $670.46 | $0.21 | 3,414× |
| Overnumbered | 88 | 88 | $87.66 | $0.20 | 423× |
| Metal | 28 | 15 | $1,333.31 | $20.11 | 63.0× |
Reading the table
The standard card’s median price is small because most standard printings are commons and uncommons that cost cents. Variants are limited printings, so even the middle one is in a different price bracket. A median multiple in the hundreds does not mean every card is a hundred times pricier; it reflects how cheap the typical standard card is.

What to do with this
- Before pricing any card, read its set code, number and any letter suffix. They tell you whether it is a variant.
- If a variant looks identical on camera, let the scanner’s chooser decide and verify against the number printed on the card.
- Record variants separately in your binder; they are the cards that move a collection’s total.
- For a quick tour of every label see Riftbound card variants explained.
Finish is a separate axis from variant: see foil versus normal prices. For how the underlying numbers work, read Riftbound card prices explained.
How these numbers are calculated
Every figure on this page is calculated when the site is built, from the public RiftHunt card catalog and the daily TCGplayer price estimates published through the RiftHunt API. A printing’s headline price is its normal market price, otherwise its foil market price, otherwise its lowest listing. Medians are used instead of averages so a few expensive cards do not distort the result. Prices are estimates for typical copies, not offers to buy or sell. RIFT SCAN is an unofficial fan project; see about RIFT SCAN, or look up any card in the set lists.
Common questions
Which Riftbound variant is worth the most?
As of 26 October 2026, the median prices of the compared pairs are: Metal $1,333.31, signature $670.46, overnumbered $87.66 and alternate art $3.42, against $0.34 for a standard card.
Are alternate art cards always more expensive than the standard card?
Usually, but not always. The median alternate-art printing costs $3.42 against $0.34 for the standard card, yet individual pairs vary. Check the card page for each printing.
Why are the multiples so large?
Because the typical standard card costs only cents. A multiple compares against that tiny base, so a median in the hundreds does not mean every variant is worth hundreds of times its standard card.
