How to scan Riftbound cards and check their price (free, no app)
Use your phone or webcam to identify any Riftbound card and see its TCGplayer price in seconds. Step-by-step instructions, lighting tips and troubleshooting.
RIFT SCAN is a free Riftbound card scanner that runs entirely in your web browser. There is nothing to install and no account to create: you point your camera at a card, it reads the card on your device, finds the exact printing in the catalog and shows the current TCGplayer price.
Scan a Riftbound card in six steps
- Open the card scanner on a phone, tablet or computer with a camera. The site is served over HTTPS, which browsers require for camera access.
- Press Start scanning and allow camera access when your browser asks. The camera only starts after you press the button.
- Lay the card on a plain, evenly lit surface and fill the on-screen frame with it. Live hints tell you to move closer, hold steady, add light or tilt away from glare.
- In Auto mode the scan starts as soon as the card is steady. Prefer control? Switch to Manual and press Capture yourself.
- If several printings could match (for example a standard card and its Metal promo), pick the right one from the list using the set code and number printed on your card.
- Read the price. Choose Normal or Foil to see each finish's market price, lowest listing and the other price points, with the time the data was last updated.
Tips for reliable Riftbound card scans
- Use soft, even light. Foil cards reflect lamps, so tilt the card slightly if the app reports glare.
- Keep the card flat and upright, filling the frame, with the title and collector number visible.
- Hold steady for a second. A blurry frame is the most common reason a scan fails.
- If a scan cannot be identified, retry or use search by name or collector number. It works without a camera.
What if the Riftbound scanner picks the wrong card?
The app never presents a guess as certain. When the name matches several printings it shows a chooser, and every result shows a confidence label. Always compare the name and the set code and number (like OGN-267/298) with your card, especially for alternate-art, signature and Metal printings, which can look the same to a camera but are priced very differently. Our guide to Riftbound card variants explains how to tell them apart.
Is scanning private?
Yes. The camera image is processed by text recognition running inside your browser. Photos are never uploaded or stored; the only things downloaded are the public card catalog and the daily price list.
